2020 Creative Arts for Healing - #CA4Healing

Helping children to overcome the traumatic experience of war

Children are the most vulnerable! Humanitarian aid generally focuses on what you can see, you can touch, measure, build: food, medicine, cloths, shelter. Psychological trauma is invisible. Exposure to war breaks children’s fragile defense mechanisms and results in pervasive feeling of hopelessness, grief, anger and fear. Art, Music, and Dance play a crucial role in restoring the resilience and protecting children from the adverse effects of war. Researchers suggest that the power of art can help improve self-awareness, self-confidence, and provide an outlet for children to express and communicate feelings and heal from the horrors that they've witnessed.

AHMF is proud to partner with Nexus Center for The Arts to create a specialized Creative Arts for Healing (#CA4Healing) program for children from the affected war zone in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh. This program will use the creative arts to help children to express, create, and heal in a safe and supportive environment. Art, music, dance are indispensable tools for communication, emotional release and ultimate recovering.

Nexus will provide its facilities and program for #CA4Healing services. There will be group sessions organized for Art, Dance, and Music therapy classes.

In Art class participants will be introduced to drawing, painting, photography, collages, building with wood, plaster, or clay. Through creating and reflecting on art kids can explore hands-on projects and express their emotional responses.

Music class will involve children in singing, listening, playing, and other creative activities that will help develop a self-awareness, confidence, coping skills. Children will discover various styles of music and instruments.

Dance class will engage kids in dance activities and enable them to use movements to express a wide range of emotions through connection between the mind and body. Children will be introduced to dance styles, learn dance techniques that will promote health and healing.

About Nexus Center for The Arts: Nexus is an alternative program providing children and adults with a learning environment that is both rigorous and fun. Our goal is to teach you how music works so that you can not just listen to the music you love, but create it as well! http://www.nexuscenterarts.com/

Here is the short clip about program (In Armenian):
